Prepare Him Room: Full...In a Good Way (Luke 2:4-7)
The holidays are one of the busiest, most stressful, most complicated times of the year. Our lives can often feel like a dead sprint from Thanksgiving all the way through New Year’s Day. Christmas is just full.
And if it’s full, where is Jesus in the midst of all this Christmas chaos? Is there any room for him in an already full season?
When we study Luke 2:4-7 more closely, we discover it’s possible that Jesus was not born in a quiet stable with only Mary and Joseph and a sheep and a cow, but rather in a normal, busy living room. Immanuel, God with us, born right in the thick of a messy, loud, smelly, crowded home.
Our living rooms can be so full of living that we don’t actually appreciate the moments that take place there. Especially in this season. We’re cramming, preparing, trying to remember all the details, trying to keep everyone happy, trying to get everything done to the point of utter exhaustion. Even so, Jesus comes to us right into the middle of our mess.
Jesus comes into the fullness of our lives to offer us life to the fullest, a life that is a light to all everyone, a life that will never end, a life we cannot contain, a life given to us to savor fully this Christmas season.
