Sunday Worship Service
Sunday Service
Our Sunday morning gatherings integrate traditional and modern practices to create a purposeful worship experience. We sing, stand for the reading of scripture, engage God’s word during a 25 minute sermon.
In our Advent series, The Hopes (and Fears) of All the Years, we’re looking at the ways we can find hope in the Christmas story, even when hope feels elusive. During Advent we also light candles of hope, joy, peace, and love each week, culminating in our Christmas Eve service and the lighting of the Christ candle.
On this special Sunday, we’ll also enjoy musical performances by our Kids Commons children!
On the first Sunday of every month, we celebrate communion together at the Lord’s Table.
Please check our Calendar to stay up to date with our summer schedule.
Kids Commons
We strive to make Kids Commons a place where all kids can feel safe, be curious, and know they are loved by God. Nursery is available each week for children birth to 3, and preschool and kindergarten are available each week for 4-6 year olds. Our 1st to 3rd grade class meets once a month on second Sundays, and our 4th and 5th grade class meets once a month on first Sundays. Families can elect to escort kids to Kids Commons at any point during the morning, and we also specifically invite kids to join Kids Commons right before the sermon.
SoulFood
Please join us after the service for SoulFood, a space to meet, connect, and engage with one another...all over great coffee and a yummy bite to eat.
Candlelight Christmas Eve Service
Candlelight Service
A heartfelt, traditional New England classic. On Christmas Eve we gather for a special candlelight service to celebrate the birth of Jesus.
It will be a beautiful service, full of familiar Christmas hymns, capped off with the singing of Silent Night by candlelight.
Kids Commons
We invite all children to join our main service and we will have an array of activities and coloring pages available for people of all ages in the foyer. (We will not have a separate Kids Commons space on Christmas Eve).
The Last Supper of 2024
Some of the most meaningful ways to worship involve being our authentic selves with others who are also being their authentic selves. We hope you’ll join us for a chance to break bread and eat together with glad and sincere hearts.
Sisterhood Saturday - Breakfast Bash
We can often feel isolated and disconnected from one another. On Sisterhood Saturdays women gather for encouragement and connection in a comfortable, safe space.
This time, come in your pajamas or favorite sweats. Think delicious breakfast foods, slow morning, hot coffee, and new year reflections.
Guys Get Together
More than half of men in American report feeling unsatisfied with the size of their friend groups. We want to do something about that.
At our Guys Get Together, guys head to one of our homes to connect over some good food. It’s a chance to get to know one another and support one other in our faith. We'll aim for 10:30am start time, and all guys are welcome.

4th & 5th Grade After Hours
Our 4th & 5th Grade After Hours Game Day has been scheduled for Sunday, November 17th from 11 am to 12:30pm at the Amari Home (33 Chandler St. in Haverhill). Please take a moment to register here or in the Church Center app.
We'll provide light snacks and lots of games, but please bring your child's favorite board game or card game from home to share with their friends! As always, adults are welcome to stay and chat or drop off and pick up, whatever works for your family and your child that day.
Let Megan know if you have any questions or concerns leading up to the event. Excited for our kids to have another chance to have fun and build community together.

More than half of men in American report feeling unsatisfied with the size of their friend groups. We want to do something about that.
Sunday, after church, a group of guys are heading to Duffy's Diner for some good food and good “fellaship.” We'll aim for 10:30am. All guys are welcome, and if you need any help paying for breakfast, we've got you covered. The plan is to get the GGT rolling once a month moving forward. If you have any questions or ideas about the group, grab any of the guys on Sunday.

Commons Special: Backyard Bonfire
Backyard Bonfire
A special event with Haverhill Commons. On Saturday, Nov. 2nd, we’re combining two backyards to host a an epic backyard bonfire with plenty of activities for the kids and at least 2 fire pits. We’ll gather around the flickering flames, roast marshmallows, enjoy the company and conversation.
We’ll provide food and drinks, and then, halfway through the evening, we’ll shift into a conversation about how our faith informs our engagement in a contemporary topic. These are open ended and flexible conversations, giving us a chance to practice our values of curiosity, authenticity, and humility.
You’re welcome to drop in for part of the evening or stay for the whole thing.

SoulCare Sunday: The Rhythm of Fall
SoulCare Sunday
Practice what we preach! As a tangible way to embrace a different rhythm, we invite you to a special event with Haverhill Commons. Instead of gathering in our normal space for Sunday worship, on SoulCare Sunday, we partner with Rolling Ridge Retreat Center to practice Sabbath rest in community and embrace the wonderful rhythms of Fall.
The property at Rolling Ridge includes a quiet lakefront, green pastures, paths through the woods, two prayer labyrinths, manicured lawns, as well as gardens and community growing spaces. All only 10 minutes from downtown Haverhill.
A Spiritual Director will guide us through the spiritual practice of lectio in this beautiful outdoor setting . After some time in contemplation, we’ll gather to share our experiences of renewal and rest with each other, creation, and God
This event is open to adults and children, just let us know how many are attending so that we can plan accordingly.

Fall Fun: Apple Picking at Cider Hill Farms
One of our favorite Fall events is taking a trip to Cider Hill Farms in Amesbury. They've got a huge orchard full of apple trees, a peep of chickens, a bake shop, 4582 million pumpkins, and of course, cider donuts.
On Sept. 22th, after our Sunday service, we'll head over to Cider Hills and see what kind of fun we can have together. Get it on your calendar now!

SoulTraining Workshop: Listening as a Labor of Love
Have you ever wondered what happens when we listen? Or even what listening actually is?
In a world of decreasing attention spans, listening is an art many of us haven't mastered quite as well as we might think or hope that we have. None of us do it perfectly, and there are just so many places that communication breaks down. But when we take a step back and look at what listening actually IS and the process for how we do it, we can become more mindful of what is going on. The more aware we become, the more we are able to actively and intentionally become better listeners.
So that's exactly what we're going to do! In lieu of our usual Sunday morning service, we’ll be gathering for a workshop we’re calling Listening as a Labor of Love, led by Marcus Privitt. We hope you can join us for this interactive workshop!
You can register here or with the button below. We would LOVE to have a head count on how many kids will be attending and how much food to provide. We'll be offering something for children aged toddler through 5th grade during the workshop.
Unfortunately, the space at First Baptist does not lend itself well to a Nursery, so we ask that children under 1 stay with parents and take breaks from the session needed.
Summer Special: Backyard Bonfire
Backyard Bonfire
A special event with Haverhill Commons. Instead of our typical Sunday worship service, we’re gathering in a different way as we embrace our alternative summer rhythm. To kick off the summer, we’re hosting a backyard bonfire where we’ll enjoy burgers and hot dogs, a host of summer sides, variety of beverages, and plenty of activities for the kids to enjoy.
Halfway through the evening, we’ll switch gears and host a conversation on the intersection of faith and and science. These conversations are open ended and flexible, giving us a chance to practice our values of curiosity, authenticity, and humility.
You’re welcome to come for the whole evening, or pop in for part.
Summer Special: Picnic at the Park
Picnic at the Park
A special event with Haverhill Commons. We close out the summer with a picnic at Swasey Field/Park in Haverhill. This is a great way to get to know who we are in a laid back, welcoming setting.
The splash park will be in full swing, so remember to bring towels and have any kids wear bathing suits if that's something they'll want to do. We also recommend a few lawn chairs and/or a blanket to sit on.
Also welcome: frisbees, basketballs, baseball gear, footballs, and anything else you can think of that would be fun.
There is a small parking at the north end of the park and additional street parking
